ELLENVILLE – The Ellenville Public Library & Museum and Ulster County Tourism will host Bikeville, a leisurely four-mile ride around the Village of Ellenville, from 9:30 a.m.–noon Saturday.
Riders of all ages are invited to take part in this sight-seeing tour, which runs through the heart of the village and on the O&W Rail Trail behind Ellenville Central School.
Registration is at the Ellenville Public Library & Museum, in the Canal Street parking lot. Local mountain biking experts from the Renegades Bike Club will provide an educational safety session for young riders and helpful repair and maintenance tips for parents.
“Our goal is to provide a safe, family-fun ride that not only brings members of the community closer together, but encourages nearby residents to explore the beauty of Ellenville,” said Lynne “Asha” Golliher, outreach librarian at Ellenville Public Library & Museum. “So many people pass by Ellenville every day and don’t realize the abundance of outdoor activities that await just beyond their backyard. Whether you’re an avid hiker, biker, runner, or enjoy the thrill of hang gliding, there is truly something for everyone to enjoy.”
Deborah Garry, president of BBG&G Advertising, the Hudson Valley-based advertising firm that heads the “Find Yourself in Ellenville” campaign, said, “Working with Ellenville community members to plan this event has been a wonderful experience, and it’s a real team effort between everyone involved.”
The ride will end in front of the newly renovated Hunt Memorial Building on Liberty Square, with participants being awarded a medallion, which affords them discounts at participating locations, including Ace Hardware, Aroma Thyme Bistro, Cohen’s Bakery, Mimmy’s, and Tony and Nick’s Pizzeria. Attendees will also be entered in a free drawing to win bike-related accessories.
Bikeville sponsors include the Ellenville Public Library & Museum, Ulster Tourism, Renegades Bike Club, Find Yourself in Ellenville, and Top Shelf Jewelry, Inc.
Riders are encouraged to bring sunscreen, a snack, and a helmet. Children under 14 are required to wear a helmet in order to participate.
