FIND YOUR CALM
Culture & Cuisine in Ellenville
DAY ONE – Afternoon Arrival
Find Spa-Like Serenity
Get to that R & R right away at Honor’s Haven Resort & Spa. The spa facilities include a pool, Jacuzzi, and both wet and dry saunas. Treatments include massage, aromatherapy, Reiki, facials and other skin care. While you’re there, take a wellness class, like Energy Yoga or Healing Tai-Chi, while enjoying views of the Shawangunk Mountains. Enjoy undistracted balance in nature, with a walk-through of the Labyrinth Garden, Healing Park, and hiking trails.
For dinner, treat yourself to a fine dining experience downtown, along the Canal Street “restaurant row.” Make reservations in advance in order to enjoy Aroma Thyme Bistro, the Publik House, or the Cattleman’s Grill steakhouse.
Walk This Way
Spend your morning in nature, with a gentle walk or power hike. First, grab picnic lunch provisions at Wilson’s Market or Cohen’s Bakery, then choose from several trails. For some history with your hike, try the D & H Canal Path and Rail Trail. A railroad once traveled along here, and before that, the D & H Canal brought in coal from Pennsylvania by boat. There are also many pleasant and scenic walks within the Minnewaska State Park Preserve and the Sundown Wild Forest (formerly the Lundy Estate), and along the Smiley Carriage Trail, an old carriage road.
Follow the Wine Trail
Spend your afternoon on a different kind of a trail – the Shawangunk Wine Trail, an 80-mile stretch featuring 15 family-owned wineries. Visit the two closest to Ellenville—Brimstone Hill Vineyard and Robibero Family Vineyards—for cellar tours and tastings of their award-winning reds, whites, rosés, and sparkling wines.
Feed Your Dinner Cravings
In the mood for food with international flair? Ellenville’s dining scene also includes several ethnic eateries, including the Sook House for Korean and Japanese delicacies; Gaby’s Café, a Mexican cantina; or Tony and Nick’s Italian Kitchen.
Shadowlands After Hours
The day’s not over yet! If it’s a weekend, chances are good that there’s a show at Shadowlands Stages, an historic theater presenting professional Equity plays and musicals.
Fore Before Noon
Spend your morning playing the beautiful links of the Fallsview Golf Course at Honor’s Haven. The picturesque nine-hole championship course was designed by acclaimed golf course architect Robert Trent Jones, Sr. If you want to play 18 holes, the Fallsview offers two sets of tees that provide different challenges for both nines.
Step Back in Time
Pick up a quick lunch in town—the Ellenville Diner, Marbella’s or Arianna’s, perhaps?—then stop into one of the local museums for a step back in time. Start at the Terwilliger House, part of the Ellenville Public Library & Museum. Check out the pre-Civil War artifacts at the Wawarsing Historical Society and Knife Museum, or visit the George and John R. Hunt Memorial building.
Take a detour on the way home in New Paltz, where you can enjoy even more culture, like the Samuel Dorsky Museum on the campus of SUNY New Paltz, the Unison Arts Center, or any of the downtown art galleries. Or head up to Saugerties to explore the Opus 40 Sculpture Park and Museum.
